Ree Drummond learned the hard way her future husband loved steak
In his 2011 book The Pioneer Woman: From Black Heels to Tractor Wheels – A Love Story, Drummond shared a funny story about her future husband, Ladd. On her fifth date with the man of her dreams, she realized that Ladd had a very limited palate.
“We were clearly on some sort of roll, and now he wanted me to see where he lived,” she wrote. “I wasn’t in a position to say no.” Realizing that his beloved’s house was a secluded ranch, Drummond “offered to bring provisions and cook dinner for him.
“I agonized for hours over what I could possibly cook for this beefy new man in my life; clearly, no mediocre cuisine would do, ”she wrote. After browsing through what she called her “sophisticated arsenal of city dwellers” of recipes, Drummond finally chose to make Ladd one of her family’s favorite dishes, Linguine with Clam Sauce, convinced it would wow her beau. . This is not the case.
“I didn’t know who I was dealing with,” she recalls. “I did not know that this fourth generation cattle rancher does not eat small chopped clams, not to mention small chopped clams drenched in wine and cream and mixed with long, heavy, hard-to-negotiate noodles.
Ladd ate the food served to him. At the time, Drummond said she had no idea “how romantic a gesture had been.”
Ree’s First Blog Recipe Post is Practically a Love Letter to Ladd
The now hugely popular Pioneer Woman married her ranchman in 1996. Ten years and four children later, she started her blog, which eventually caught the attention of countless followers and the Food Network.
According to The Pioneer Woman blog, Drummond’s first recipe post was certainly not about chopped clams. It was a romantic gesture apparently returned to her husband about his favorite meal: steak – especially on how to create a juicy, properly seasoned steak.
“Time to think about what’s for dinner this weekend,” she wrote in 2007. “How about a good, juicy steak? Don’t be intimidated; it’s one of the easiest things in the world to cook, and it will make your soul sing. Let’s cook a sirloin steak today.
“Look for a boneless rib eye with ‘good marbling, ‘which refers to the tiny lines of fat spread throughout the steak. Marbling adds flavor, juiciness and tenderness to the cooked steak.
The pioneer woman reflected on her first blog posts
The food show host told PopSugar that although she started her blog in 2006 to write about her life and family, it wasn’t until 2007 that she started sharing recipes.
“I can confirm that ‘How to cook a steak’ was my very first cooking job,” she said. “However, it didn’t really go viral – it slowly gained more readers over time! I started blogging in 2006 and started making revenue in 2007… [O]Over time, people would come to read, share with people they knew, etc! They liked the step-by-step format, then started asking me to post more, and that’s how my food blog started. My food photos left a lot to be desired at the time! I never really had that “huge moment” where something catapulted my blog into space – it was slow and steady! “
